Today, we're talking about the addictive world of TikTok, where short-form video content moves faster than you can scroll. TikTok is more than just a platform, it's a phenomenon with 1.6 billion monthly active users worldwide which is pretty crazy when you think about it “One Point SIX”. 🤯 

It is a platform when you can get wealthy virtually overnight if you do things the right way.

So how do you start or more importantly how do you grow your account quickly?

What is TikTok?

In case you've been living under a rock (or just haven't gotten on the TikTok train yet), TikTok is a fantastic platform that lets you create, share, and discover short videos set to music or other audio. It's like a treasure chest of creativity, and it's brought to us by ByteDance, a Chinese tech company and TikTok is actually the second-largest video platform in the world.

So let’g go through the most successful method used to:

  • Build your brand

  • Grow your audience

  • Go viral and keep going viral

  • Monetise and reap the rewards

The Different Types of TikTok Content

TikTok offers a variety of content types to explore and create:

  • Photo Swipe Through Content: This type is all about strong images and an intriguing hook.

  • Search-Based Content: If you're into the latest videos, this is your jam.

  • Recommendations-Based Content: Think reactions, stitches, and duets with other creators.

The TikTok Algorithm Demystified

The TikTok algorithm is a bit like a matchmaking service, trying to pair you up with content you'll adore. It's all about capturing your attention within the first three seconds and keeping you scrolling.

Here's how it works:

  • Show you content you're interested in.

  • Throw in some things you might also like.

  • Tease you with completely new stuff.

Recently, TikTok extended its sweet spot for video length to 75-90 seconds. But here's the kicker, a 10-second video can still go viral if it gets enough attention. So, the magic is in keeping up with the trends.

Keys to TikTok Success

Now, let's get to the nitty-gritty of what you need to focus on for TikTok stardom:

  • Pick a Niche: Your content should align with what's hot and trending within your chosen niche.

  • Hook 'Em: Every video needs a powerful hook that grabs attention within the first second. Make it somewhat controversial, beneficial, and deliver it with energy.

  • Watch Time: You must retain at least 70% of your audience after the first 3 seconds.

  • Analytics: Review your video analytics religiously after each post.

Niche Selection

When picking your niche, it's essential to reverse engineer what's already working for top accounts. Ask yourself:

  • What are the top 5-10 accounts doing right in your niche?

  • What hashtags are they using, how many, and how often?

  • What's currently trending in your niche?

Crafting the Perfect Hook

The hook is your golden ticket to engagement. Focus on these key aspects:

  • Make it somewhat controversial to evoke emotions.

  • Ensure it benefits the viewer (information, humour, joy).

  • Infuse it with a strong opinion and tonality.

The Importance of Watch Time

Watch time is your golden ticket to going viral. Without it, you're just another grain of sand on the beach. Keep a close eye on this metric for each video.

Analysing Your Performance

When reviewing your KPIs, pay attention to two critical charts:

  • Chart Number 1: This chart reveals if your audience is dropping off, usually due to a hook that didn't resonate or content that doesn't match your audience's interests. I highly recommend you experiment and try different types of hook’s, SPLIT TEST!
     

  • Chart Number 2: If you see a gradual decline, you're losing viewers over time. Add props, storytelling, or adjust your video length to combat this. If this is the case I would personally look at the feed in my niche, see whats trending and viral, then simply make it better and add a bit your spice to it.

Finish Strong with a Call to Action

Don't forget to include a clear call to action at the end of every video. Whether it's a link, a request to like and follow, or a simple ask to share your content, make it count. Most of us think this is silly and sometimes forget to add it, however it really does make a difference when it comes to growing your channel.

Consistency is Key

Like any social platform, consistency is your ally. Aim for at least one post per day on TikTok, and here's a sample weekly schedule:

  • Monday: 2 TikToks

  • Tuesday: 1 TikTok

  • Wednesday: 1 TikTok

  • Thursday: 1 TikTok

  • Friday: 2 TikToks

  • Saturday: 1 TikTok

  • Sunday: 2 TikToks

Ideally, space them out with a mix of AM and PM posts. Don't be afraid to experiment with different time zones using a VPN or better yet setting up a proxy server in the desired country you want to target. It is a bit more complex than a VPN but if you are here in Australia, we have a population of 25M+ people and in the USA there are 330M+….I’ll leave those stats with you.

After four weeks, analyse the data, adjust your content, and fine-tune your strategy to match the ever-evolving TikTok algorithm.

Remember, it's about being authentic, creative, staying consistent and engaging your audience, ohh and almost forgot one of the most important things.

Stay on top of trending sounds and music within the TikTok platform, this alone can send your from 1,000 views to 1,000,000.
